SynBioKP is a dedicated scheme reflected in the Annual Development Programme 2015-16 of the Science, Technology and Information Technology (ST&IT) Department of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (S#1340 Code#150748).
The overarching aim of the project is, “to promote and facilitate the propagation synthetic biology in academia and industry to bring about economic transformation and social change in the province”.
The project has three main objectives for Year 1 which are as follows:
- Support the development of tangible synthetic biology products and innovations and train students in the emerging field.
- Organize workshops and events to foster a well-connected synthetic biology cluster with stakeholders from academia and different sectors of the industry.
- Organize bootcamps and competitions to inspire college and high school students to pursue synthetic biology careers and create awareness in the general public.
The project is run through a close collaboration of the Directorate of Science and Technology of the ST&IT Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Institute of Integrative Biosciences, CECOS University of IT and Emerging Sciences, Peshawar, Pakistan.
